Camp Can Do gives young cancer patients a break from the often scary and monotonous time spent in hospitals and in treatment routines. Camp also places the young campers in an atmosphere that promotes comfort and self-confidence, surrounded by others who are sharing similar experiences.
Children from age 8 to 17 who are undergoing cancer treatment converge on Camp Can Do for one of two week-long sessions each August. There is also a third session of camp for the siblings of cancer patients.
Camp gives the children the often never realized chance to be completely uninhibited. It is a place where they won't feel pressured to keep up with their healthy friends or be self-conscious about their appearance of their therapy.
